From Mexico to Germany
My internship at Common Goal was even more rewarding than I expected. Of course, it was challenging to move from Ciudad de México to Berlin and to speak German again after 8 years of not practicing it, but it was all worth it. The feeling of being part of something bigger—an organization that truly believes in the power of football to create better opportunities for societies around the world—is indescribable. Add to that the fact that I got to live in a country that hosted the UEFA EURO 2024, which made the experience even more fulfilling.
I was part of a team of 5 people with the challenging task of organizing the Football for Sustainability Summit. This event aimed to bring together over 300 participants from politics, the football industry, and civil society organizations to use the unifying power of football to discuss and promote sustainability.
Being part of such a small team allowed me to get involved in all areas related to the event, which gave me invaluable insight into how an event of this size is organized. I worked on guest management, logistics, program design, venue management, communications, and research. My role at the event was to lead accreditation, which was a complete learning experience.
The summit was organized by Common Goal but hosted by three different German ministries in cooperation with UEFA and DFB. This allowed me to see up close how different stakeholders come together with their own ideas and the strategies that need to be developed to keep everyone happy.
All in all, being part of Common Goal, getting to know the amazing people who work there, and playing such an important role in organizing the Summit together with the German government, UEFA, and DFB has allowed me to expand my network in a way I would not have thought possible when I first started.
As my internship comes to an end, I have nothing but words of gratitude to The FBA for opening the doors to this opportunity and to Common Goal for trusting me and allowing me to perform to the best of my ability. The Summit was a great success, and I leave Berlin feeling very happy and proud.
