Biography
Erkut is an accomplished football agent and lawyer, representing the interests of several well-known figures in the footballing world, most prominently Mesut Özil. His experience (as well as legal background) has given him the opportunity to be at the forefront of contract negotiations and commercial agreements, dealing with globally recognised brands and football clubs.
Whilst always having a love for the sport of football, Erkut has been equally passionate about education. After graduating with an undergraduate law degree from the University of Osnabrück, Germany, he went onto receive masters degrees in law in both Germany (Ruhr University) and Turkey (Kültür University). This all culminated in a PhD in sports law. Learning and teaching has therefore clearly been at the forefront of Erkut’s career since the beginning – and aims to spread this knowledge in his first book about football agency that is to be released in the coming months.
Erkut’s title of being the registered agent of Mesut Özil has enabled him to expand his network in and outside of football, whilst being the midfielder’s legal representative has seen him preside over countless deals and contractual talks. Sponsorships with Adidas, Mercedes Benz and Beats all come at the cost of the hard work of Erkut, who relies on the knowledge attained in his studies as well as experience in order to be successful. Although dealing with large companies and corporations can be professionally stimulating, the charitable work Erkut does alongside Özil remains the most fulfilling. From accompanying his client in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan to organising surgeries for ill-stricken children in multiple continents, this part of the job is both emotionally moving and rewarding.
In addition to working with Özil, Erkut’s ‘Family and Football’ manages Ilkay Gündogan, Shkodran Mustafi and Yusuf Yazici, whilst representing Robert Pirès and Joachim Löw in terms of coaches. This has enabled him to build a vast and wide-reaching network throughout Europe – which in turn can be used for pursuing sponsorships and business opportunities that span different industries. Having clients and dealing with individuals from various backgrounds is made easier for Erkut as a result of his linguistic capabilities. Being able to communicate in no fewer than four languages (as well as surrounding himself with others that can speak more) is, to him, a valuable asset.
With a strong and firm belief in educating the next generation of football business leaders, Erkut is looking forward to attending as a guest lecturer.
